Adventurers Assemble for a Bon Voyage Breakfast

Character dining at Walt Disney World has come to be a staple of a great visit to the resort. In fact, some dining experiences offer meet and greet with characters not typically found in the theme parks and it is a treat when they are with other members of their story!

Introducing the Walt Disney World Resort’s newest character dining experience meeting the two adventurous, royal couples: Ariel and Eric from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” and Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder from Disney’s “Tangled.” You’ll only find these characters for breakfast service at Trattoria al Forna located at Disney’s Boardwalk.

Because of its novelty, breakfast-only character dining service, and unique opportunity to meet these couples together, advanced dining reservations are difficult, but not impossible to get with a little persistence.

The title of this character dining experience “The Bon Voyage Adventurers Breakfast” is aptly named as the goal throughout the dining experience is to interact with the characters in between their grand adventures. The title also alludes to the fact the restaurant is located just steps from the World Showcase Entrance and is the perfect way to start off your Day at Epcot with a hearty explorer’s breakfast as early as 7:00 am until 11:00 am daily.

As you are seated, you are presented with an Adventure Journal to join in the fun by documenting your own adventures at the Walt Disney World Resort. Questions like: “On my travels, my favorite Disney show is . . .” help you to recall and share with other members of your dining party favorite memories of your adventures together at Walt Disney World. We saved our Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast for our last day of our vacation, as our own bon voyage send-off meal at Disney before sadly leaving for home so the Journal was a great way to reflect on our trip during our last meal.

You are also presented with a card with signatures all the characters you’ll meet during your meal.

This, however, does not mean that the characters won’t be signing autograph books.

The mood in the restaurant is set by playing songs from the Little Mermaid and Tangled Soundtracks. The character interaction was the best I’ve had with face characters at Walt Disney World. Each character was announced into the dining room with a teaser description narrated over the music from that movie with much fanfare so you knew they were in the room and would be around to greet you soon. Since my 10 year old son was with me, meeting the two guys helped to make this not just a princess meet and greet. Flynn Rider taught my son how to do the signature smolder and Prince Eric looked very dapper (instead of the typical shipwreck outfit), while he asked my son about his boating adventures.

Rapunzel and Ariel were equally as friendly, but the best part was seeing the couples interact with each other as they passed throughout the room (dancing together, waving from across the room, holding hands, etc.).

There was also a parade later in the meal for kids or (or kids at heart) to join in with the royal couples as they paraded throughout the dining room dancing to the music providing another opportunity for everyone to join in the fun with the celebrity couples.

This dining experience is also set apart as a unique character breakfast experience as it is a seated breakfast meal, instead of a buffet style where you run the risk of missing a character at your table while you’re away. It is a fixed price menu at $34 for adults and $20 for children ages 3 – 9 or one Table Service Credit on the Disney Dining Plan.

As soon as you’re seated, the table starts off with a plate of delectable and uniquely decorated pastries served in Rapunzel’s signature frying pan. Although there is only ever one of her signature sun symbol pastries, you can order as many refills as you care to enjoy! Possible family feud averted.

Included non-alcoholic beverages are coffee, tea, milk, and juice, but adults also have the option to order specialty drinks that include a Mimosa, Peach Bellini, Caprese Bloody Mary, and a variety of specialty coffee for an additional charge. The drink menu here also boasts a Character Punch: a light lemonade punch served in a souvenir cup with a glowing character clip on light. This is a super fun souvenir for $8. You can choose the Little Mermaid or Pascal (Rapunzel’s animal sidekick)!

As a starter, you have your choice of either a Fruit or a Mixed Berry Parfait. The fruit bowl included special touches, like a sword spearing a piece of fruit and a small glitter crown cookie for a fun royal touch. The yogurt parfait had its own special flair with a crab shaped cookie to go with the fresh yogurt drizzled with honey, accompanied by fruit and cinnamon candied granola (I’ve seriously been dreaming of this yogurt parfait since this meal!).

Adults can choose from seven entrĂ©es: the Golden Frittata, Tangled Eggs, Two Eggs Poached under Water, the Tower of Pancakes, the Royale Breakfast, and Swimmers Delight, and an Italian dish, King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno, a nod to the lunch and dinner offerings served at Trattoria Al Forno typically. The children’s menu had typical breakfast fare with themed names like Flounder’s Flapjacks, Royal Breakfast (eggs and bacon) and of course a Mickey Waffle option.

We had a hard time choosing but ended up with the Swimmer’s Delight, an egg white omelet with smoked salmon, goat cheese, spinach, mushroom, and tomato with roasted potatoes and a “Tower” of Pancakes for my 10 year old son. The pancakes were dusted on top of the tower with powdered sugar in the shape of Rapunzel’s sun symbol, another fun Disney touch to the meal.

Overall, this was the best meal we had during our whole trip and it was a great way to bid Bon Voyage until our next one. Ask your Marvelous Mouse Travels agent about setting up your reservation for this one of a kind character dining experience and when you’re there don’t forget to ask Flynn Rider what’s in his bag when you meet him!
