There are some journeys that stay with you forever — and my Tulip Time river cruise aboard AmaWaterways' AmaCerto is one of them. Every turn of the river revealed a new delight: a burst of color, a charming town, a field of dancing tulips. It was the perfect blend of luxurious relaxation and cultural discovery.

The AmaCerto:  A Floating Boutique Hotel

From the moment I stepped aboard AmaCerto, it felt like home — if home came with five-star service, fine dining, and panoramic river views. The ship’s design is elegant and inviting, with spacious staterooms (many featuring twin balconies!), cozy lounges, and an open-air sun deck perfect for taking in the scenery. Every staff member made it their mission to ensure we were comfortable and cared for — and it showed in every thoughtful detail.

A Tapestry of Tulips

Springtime in the Netherlands is pure magic. Our journey coincided perfectly with peak tulip bloom, and nowhere was that more breathtaking than Keukenhof Gardens. Walking through this world-famous showcase of floral artistry — with over 7 million bulbs in bloom — was a dream. Vibrant reds, sunny yellows, and dreamy purples stretched as far as the eye could see, creating living masterpieces under a brilliant blue sky.


Storybook Towns and Rich History

Every stop along the way offered a new treasure to uncover. In Haarlem, we strolled cobblestone streets and admired the iconic St. Bavo’s Church. In Delft, the home of the famous blue pottery, we toured a working factory and watched master artisans at work. Ghent and Bruges, just across the border in Belgium, felt like scenes straight from a medieval fairy tale with their canals, gabled houses, and charming squares.


Culinary Delights at Every Turn

AmaWaterways is renowned for its culinary excellence, and AmaCerto more than lived up to the reputation. Each meal was a delicious journey of its own, featuring locally inspired dishes paired with regional wines. Whether savoring a delicate Belgian chocolate mousse or sampling Dutch cheeses, every bite was an authentic taste of the region.



One evening, we had a special treat with the Chef’s Table dining experience — a multi-course, wine-paired menu served with impeccable flair and a front-row seat to the culinary magic happening in the open kitchen.

Immersive Experiences That Bring the Region to Life

What truly set this cruise apart were the immersive excursions. Options were available for every activity level, from guided bike rides through the countryside to gentle walking tours of historic centers. I loved having the flexibility to explore at my own pace — one day cycling beside windmills, the next savoring leisurely free time to sip coffee at a canal-side café.

The local guides were outstanding, weaving history and humor into every tour, helping us see not just the places, but the heart and spirit of the people who live there.
